Voluntourism Beach Clean Up: The State of Beach Ungapan Malang

Malang, Indonesia – (09/04/2023) – This week, the Global Voyages Indonesia team visited Ungapan Beach to survey the area before the Clean Up the Beach event on April 30, 2023. The survey aimed to check the beach's condition and observe the salt fields.

The team met with Mr. Asmara, the beach's life guard. He mentioned that visitor numbers at Ungapan Beach have decreased since COVID-19, causing many local businesses to close. However, recently, visitors from outside the city have started to return, so the beach is not quiet anymore. The beach now has camping spots and trashes starting to pile up.

Besides exploring the beach, the team also observed the salt fields, which will be an educational program for volunteer participants. Through this experience, it is hoped that the volunteers will learn more about sea salt development. Also, this salt fields at Ungapan Beach is the main occupation for people around the beach.

The Global Voyages Indonesia program will focus on community empowerment and promoting tourism in Ungapan Beach. It is hoped that this program will create positive impacts for the community and environment. “I hope this event goes well and can be held again next year” said Mr. Asmara, expressing his support for the beach clean-up program.
